Taxi Joe are releasing the single ‘Trying’ from their debut album, the soundtrack to ITVX’s (K)nox: The Rob Knox Story.
The documentary follows the story of 18 year old Rob Knox who was stabbed to death just days after filming his breakthrough role as Marcus Belby in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. As a rising star, his death made headline news, and stirred a wake-up call to address these types of crimes. However, years later, knife crime remains a serious issue not only in the UK but across the globe. This emotional documentary features interviews with family members, friends and Harry Potter cast including Jim Broadbent, Ray Winstone, Tom Felton, David Yates, Dani Harmer and Blake Harrison, and includes archive interviews with Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson. Taxi Joe’s lead singer, Joe Acres knew Rob personally and collaborated with him on a short film shortly before his murder.
The song was specifically commissioned by Rob’s father, Colin Knox who wanted to pay tribute to his son’s legacy.
“Taxi Joe have really captured the perfect sound for this film, bringing my son to life through their music and their words. ‘Trying’ is an absolutely beautiful song and I think it really captures our mission and our personal feelings when it comes to the fight against knife crime since Rob’s passing”.
Dani Harmer, best known for her role in BBC’s Tracy Beaker, as well appearing alongside Rob Knox in After You’ve Gone and (K)nox: The Rob Knox Story also supports the bands brand new single.
“I absolutely love the music for the documentary from Taxi Joe, especially the new single ‘Trying’. Of course, I knew and worked with Rob for a time so it’s fantastic to see his story represented not only in film – but also through music. It’s unusual to associate a rock band with a true crime documentary, but in this case – it really does work! It really helps bring Rob to life for those who weren’t lucky enough to meet him”.
Since the documentary wrapped production in October 2020, it has toured the film circuit garnering a string of accolades – Winner Best Feature Documentary (London Independent Film Festival), Gold Winner (Latitude Film Awards), Audience Award (BELIFF London Film Festival), Official Finalist (Toronto Independent Film Festival & The Gold Movie Awards), Winner Best Documentary (The Soho London Independent Film Festival) and Official Semi-Finalist (Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival).
Trying will be available to stream on all music platforms from 23rd February.
(K)nox: The Rob Knox Story will be available to stream exclusively on ITVX from 23rd February.
